The Playing XI, Match Preview and Pitch Report are ready for the 3rd match of IPL 2022!
The third match of the Indian Premier League will see two perennial under-achievers face off in the second match of the double-header on Sunday, March 27th. The match is scheduled to be played at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai, one of the four stadiums in Maharashtra picked to host this year’s IPL.
Virat Kohli has stepped down as captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore after 11 years at the helm and Faf du Plessis has been appointed as the new skipper of the side. There was a change in leadership at the Punjab Kings too, with KL Rahul being released and Mayank Agarwal being named as his successor.
The Bangalore franchise retained Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Mohamed Siraj while the Punjab Kings held on to Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh. At the auction, Bangalore went big to bring back Harshal Patel and Wanindu Hasaranga into their side while Punjab Kings went for Rabada, Shikhar Dhawan and Shahrukh Khan.
PBKS vs RCB Probable XI
Royal Challengers Bangalore Probable XI: Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, Mahipal Lomror, Glenn Maxwell, Dinesh Karthik (wk), Anuj Rawat, Wanindu Hasaranga, Harshal Patel, Shahbaz Ahmed, Mohammed Siraj, Josh Hazlewood
Punjab Kings Probable XI: Shikhar Dhawan, Mayank Agarwal, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Liam Livingstone, Raj Bawa/Rishi Dhawan, Shahrukh Khan, Odean Smith, Kagiso Rabada, Arshdeep Singh, Rahul Chahar, Harpreet Brar
Both Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis had difficulties against leg-spin early in the innings. Punjab Kings can try Rahul Chahar in the powerplay to get one of them out early and put pressure on the middle-order, which is quite flaky.
The battle between the Punjab Kings’ top 4 against Siraj, Hazlewood and Harshal Patel will be enticing to watch and will be crucial in deciding the outcome of the game. Wanindu Hasaranga has to fill the huge void left by the exit of Yuzvendra Chahal along with the added pressure of his price tag. Dinesh Karthik will bring truckloads of runs and experience to the side and will look to target the death-bowling of the Punjab Kings, which apart from Rabada isn’t too experienced. It will be interesting to see how the new captains Mayank Agarwal and Du Plessis lead their respective teams as neither player has captained a side in the IPL before.

PBKS vs RCB Pitch Report
There is very little to go on for all sides as far as the pitch at the DY Patil Stadium is concerned. A total of 20 games will be played at this venue in the league phase. It hosted the IPL finals in 2008 and also hosted 6 games in 2010 including the semi-finals, 3rd place-off and the final.
The pitch is generally good for batting and the captain who wins the toss should opt to bowl first as there will be dew later on.
