The Playing XI, Match Preview and Pitch Report are ready for the 5th match of IPL 2022!
1-time winners Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals will lock horns in the first game of their respective seasons in the IPL. The match is scheduled to take place at the MCA Stadium in Pune, one of the four venues chosen to host this year’s IPL.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad were handed a wooden spoon last year but with a squad that is very different to 2021, they will look to turn their fortunes around this campaign. Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Royals continued to under-achieve, finishing 7th and would like to right the wrongs of last season. Sunrisers retained Kane Williamson, Umran Malik and Abdul Samad while Rajasthan Royals retained Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Both teams were very busy at the auction table, with the Sunrisers Hyderabad shelling out big money for Nicholas Pooran, Romario Shepherd and Washington Sundar while the Rajasthan Royals went big for Prasidh Krishna, Shimron Hetmeyer and Trent Boult.
SRH vs RR Probable XI
Sunrisers Hyderabad Probable XI: Rahul Tripathi, Abhishek Sharma, Kane Williamson (C), Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran (WK), Abdul Samad, Romario Shepherd, Washington Sundar, Umran Malik, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan
Rajasthan Royals Probable XI: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Jos Buttler (WK), Devdutt Paddikal, Sanju Samson (C), Shimron Hetmeyer, Riyan Parag, James Neesham, Ravichandran Ashwin, Navdeep Saini, Trent Boult, Yuzvendra Chahal
Once again, the aim for any opposition team against the Sunrisers Hyderabad would be to get into their lower middle-order as quickly as possible. The middle-order looks brittle and inexperienced once again for the Sunrisers with Abdul Samad, Romario Shepherd and Washington Sundar.
Sunrisers have had decent success in stopping Rajasthan Royals’ best batsmen Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson, although it was often Rashid Khan who got them out. Death overs bowling could be an issue for the Royals, who have Saini and Boult, but both of them tend to go for runs at the death.
Washington Sundar, who played at his venue in 2017, and Ravi Ashwin will be looking forward to bowling on this wicket where the off-spinners concede just 6.75 runs an over.

SRH vs RR Pitch Report
The average first innings score on this ground in T20s is 168.5 which suggests it is pretty good for batting. Generally, teams prefer to chase here because of a barren pitch, dew and shorter boundaries. Fast bowlers might get some assistance early on, but as the game progresses, the 22-yard pitch tends to slow down, and spinners too may come into play.
The off-spinners have enjoyed the most success at this venue, conceding just 6.75 runs an over while fast bowlers leak runs at 7.4.
