The Playing XI, Match Preview and Pitch Report are ready for the 2nd match of IPL 2022!
The second match of the Indian Premier League will see the 5-time Champions Mumbai Indians take on the Delhi Capitals in Mumbai. The match will be the first of the double-headers with the Punjab Kings taking on the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the night game. The match is scheduled to take place at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, which is one of the four stadiums in the state of Maharashtra to host the IPL this year.
Mumbai Indians had a pretty poor season last year relative to the high standards they’ve set over the years, finishing 5th in the table. The Delhi Capitals, who finished as runners-up in 2020, followed that up with a 3rd place finish in 2021.
Both teams performed well in the auction, with MI breaking the bank for Ishan Kishan, Tim David and Jofra Archer, while Delhi went big for Shardul Thakur, David Warner and Mitch Marsh.
Prior to the auction, MI had retained Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard while Delhi held on for Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Prithvi Shaw and Anrich Nortje.
MI vs DC Probable XI
Mumbai Indians XI: Ishan Kishan (wk), Rohit Sharma (C), Suryakumar Yadav, Sanjay Yadav, Kieron Pollard, Tilak Varma, Tim David, Daniel Sams, Mayank Markande, Tymal Mills, Jasprit Bumrah
Delhi Capitals XI: Prithvi Shaw, David Warner, Mitch Marsh, Rishabh Pant (C/WK), Lalit Yadav, Sarfaraz Khan, Rovman Powell, Axar Patel, Anrich Nortje, Chetan Sakariya, Shardul Thakur
The opening exchanges are where the match could be decided, with both sides possessing top-class openers along with a gun fast bowler. The battles between Prithivi Shaw and David Warner against Bumrah, Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma against Nortje could be crucial in deciding the outcome of the game.
The middle-orders for both teams look pretty weak, which could add further pressure on the top three. The obvious weakness in the bowling department for Mumbai Indians is spin. Mayank Markande, who burst onto the scene in 2018, hasn’t had a great time in the IPL since then, while Delhi has one of India’s premium spinners in Axar Patel in their ranks. Pant’s side could struggle at the death as apart from Shardul Thakur, there aren’t any reliable options while Mumbai has Bumrah and Mills to bowl at the end.
Mumbai Indians vs Delhi Capitals Match Details

Teams: Mumbai Indians (MI) vs Delhi Capitals (DC)
Date/Day: Sunday/27th March 2022

MI vs DC Pitch Report
The teams will be heading into the unknown as far as the Brabourne Stadium is concerned but the Mumbai Indians turned this venue into a fortress in 2010 where they won 6 out of the 7 games.
Generally, the pitch is very good for batting with a flat, hard-packed outfield. The average T20 score here is 184.5 but those matches have been played way back in 2014 and 2015. The team batting first has won 75% of the games although there is the possibility of dew in the 2nd innings.
MI vs DC Head to Head record
Total Matches Played – 30
Won by MI – 16
Won by DC – 14
The head-to-head record is pretty even with Mumbai Indians winning 16 games and Delhi Capitals coming out on top in 14. This is a tough one to predict, but the Delhi Capitals might just nick it as they have the more balanced line-up and Mumbai generally tend to start slow.
